Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) is Punjab’s premier Investment promotion agency linking Punjab to a global network of progressive investors – promoting projects with burgeoning potential and high IRR. This one-window-operation also facilitates investors by streamlining procedures and institutional processes through proactive policy advocacy within the government.
By cutting bureaucracies, PBIT’s private sector focus has enabled investors to take advantage of the Punjab Government’s liberal trade policies. PBIT has a wealthy Human Resource cache which brings with it an expertise-based approach toward investment.
Ultimately PBIT aims to build Punjab’s most prized Human Capital asset of 92 million by improving their skill set. Already resource rich, Punjab has infinite possibilities to become a world leader in food production and processing, stemming from availability of arable land and the best canal irrigation system in the world. This region also factors among the top ten world contributions to citrus production, milk production, cotton, meat produce, rice, and wheat and mango pulp. Punjab holds the capacity to be the leading producer of these products and provides studies to support and nurture opportunities for new investments.
A growing world food and water crisis makes Punjab an even more crucial hub to meet demand stemming from the exponential growth in global population and the consequent diminishing reserves.
Although the name “Punjab” translates into “the land of the five tributaries” derived from the Indus River that runs over 2000 km in the province alone, the inability to recycle water and the lack of dams to power the growing industry clusters around the province has caused a below capacity performance unlike its regional economies.
This will change with the new Private Public Infrastructure Ordinance 2009. PBIT’s rile is to make investors aware of new investor-friendly regulation such as this. The Punjab Government has brought a suitable framework to encourage private public infrastructure projects. Given this new framework, the power sector is forecasted to turnaround in the next couple of years and PBIT will see the province through this transition by providing facilitation and prompt response once alerted by investors about any procedural hassles.
PBIT welcomes investors to Punjab and in preparation we have identified projects and pre-feasibilities in relevant areas. PBIT offers a one-to-one relationship to the investor, guaranteed a reduced time to market, world class reports and a customized financial advisory.
