Who could have imagined a Malaysian man dressing the feet of stars and celebrities all over the world? Making every fashion savvy woman beautiful is Lewré Lew Fong Voon, as iconic in every sense as the brand he created and launched in 1997 with pomp and gaiety. Attended by another Malaysian legend, Jimmy Choo, his initial words of wisdom and support towards a fellow Malaysian proved invaluable in setting Lewré on its way to stardom. Within 10 glorious years, the brand attained fashion nirvana, making him one of the very few Malaysian to excel in fashion globally. Today, Lewré is proud to adorn the feet of women locally and abroad.
The success and reputation of Lewré is attributed to the exuberance brilliance of its founder Lewré Lew. He started to ply his trade by manufacturing shoes via his company Roondy (M) Sdn. Bhd. in 1987. But not one to rest on his laurels, he set about achieving his dream of designing and producing stylish and quality shoes for women who appreciates beauty as an art form. Armed with his vision and with support from the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MARTRADE), he made his first presence felt at the world famous GDS Shoe Fair in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1991.
That marked the dawn of a new era for Lewré as he transformed his company from and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) status to ODM (Original Design Manufacturing) status and therefore setting his path to achieving his vision. His presence was cemented in 1994 when orders were received from the fashion-conscious markets of Europe and Japan, capping an outstanding path it had taken and paving the way for a glorious future.
The Transformation to an International Brand
1995 proved to be the year of reckoning for Lewré and his company, when his shoes were recognised by no other than the world famous shoe connoisseur himself, the one and only Jimmy Choo. So impressed was he that he invited Lewré to join in the much celebrated and much publicised London Fashion Week. It was indeed the greatest honour and achievement for a young Malaysian brand to be able to work with Arkadius, Ben de Lisi, Jasper Conran and Dexter Wong, all standout designers at that time. Nevertheless, their acceptance and impression of Lewré’s designs and creations were never in doubt. With this recognition and the firm grasp of Lewré on the fashion world, the brand flew to greater heights.
Growing exponentially to over 20 countries from Asia to the Middle East and from Europe to North America, the brand stamped its mark in the fashion capitals of the world and became synonymous as a must-have adorning the feet of celebrities whose desire for the brand reflects the achievement of Lewré’s extravagant vision. With the ISO 9001:2000 certification in hand awarded in 2003 as recognition for the brand’s international standard and quality, the runaway success continues with the collaboration with the legendary crystal maker, Crystals and in 2005’s London Fashion Week.
